‘Remembering Prof. Dervilla Donnelly‘

Pat Guiry is Professor of Chemistry at University College Dublin (UCD). His research interests include the design, synthesis and application of novel ligands in asymmetric catalysis, natural product synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
He completed a PhD in Chemistry with Prof. Dervilla Donnelly, Prof. Sir Derek Barton FRS and Dr J. P. Finet at UCD. After a post doctoral fellowship at Oxford he returned to UCD as a Lecturer in chemistry. In 2006 he was appointed Full Professor of Synthetic Organic Chemistry in the UCD School of Chemistry and Director of the Centre for Synthesis and Chemical Biology.
Since 2023, Professor Pat Guiry has been President of the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland’s leading body of experts in the sciences and humanities. Since 2022 he has been President of the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland and President of the Division of Organic Chemistry of the European Chemical Society.
