‘Irish Pioneers of Neuroscience: A Hidden Legacy‘ – January 2025

Richard Roche is a professor of psychology at Maynooth University. His research interests include memory, spatial representation, psychosis, stroke and decision making. He also established Ireland’s first high-density electroencephalogram (EEG) laboratory.
Richard was appointed Lecturer in Maynooth University’s Department of Psychology in 2005 following an undergraduate degree in Psychology, a postgraduate degree in Cognitive Neuroscience and postdoctoral fellowship at Trinity College, Dublin (TCD). He has been Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology since 2021.
He has published over 35 research articles and three books, and served as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience (2014-2016). He served on the Board of Neuroscience Ireland from 2005 to 2014, as Vice-President from 2010 to 2012 and President from 2012 to 2014, and was the founding President of the Irish Brain Council in 2013.
Prof. Richard Roche has been a strong supporter of neuroscience advocacy, outreach and public engagement over the last number of years.
